New ferry connecting Dutch islands

Since the Easter weekend, Wagenborg Passagiersdiensten has started operating a brand new ferry connection between the Dutch/Frisian mainland and the northern islands. Guido de Groot Design has been responsible for interior design of the fast ferry. The ship, baptized M.S. Fostaborg, is providing a fast ferry service and is scheduled to sail six times per day between Holwerd and Ameland.

The interior of the public transport vessel is designed to keep the feel of a luxury, comforting space while providing the robustness for many years of travel. Because the environment on a (holiday) trip to the Dutch islands is important, the framing shouldn’t distract the view. That resulted in a minimal look of the window surroundings, as well as in much uncluttered technical solutions for the ceiling plan.
