Made to move – Guido de Groot

Selene’s 72 Ocean Explorer has been launched and is now in the Mediterranean for her first season. Built by Selene Yachts, to a design and concept by Guido de Groot, this long-range yacht displays a combination of modern style with the substance and reliability of an ocean-going vessel.

Our studio used a number of design features which show her Selene pedigree, while adding in new traits to enhance the onboard experience and continue the evolution of this line of yachts. The strong lines of the raised pilothouse and Portuguese bridge speak of the 72 Ocean Explorer’s functionality and ability to take on the world’s oceans, while wide upper deck and side deck walk-arounds, large hull windows, and the sleek lines of the flybridge denote a thoroughly modern yacht, built with her passengers’ comfort in mind.

Consideration has been given to every detail of the yacht; including down to the function and form of the swimming platform. Oversized, with a private head, and capable of being equipped with an hydraulic tender lift, it provides a large space to enjoy the environments this yacht is made to cruise to.

A light-filled interior is inviting, with a functional layout to accommodate guests in comfort. The full beam master is on the lower deck, along with three guest cabins and crew quarters, with two cabins.

With six cabins, five heads and capable of achieving 11.5 knots, and carrying 11 355 litres of fuel for long range voyages, we’re looking forward to seeing this new vessel in some of the world’s most-beautiful cruising grounds.
