An interview about LALABE

In this video recorded during the Cannes Yachting Festival, the creative minds behind the 35-meter motor yacht LALABE shared their innovative design philosophy that transforms traditional superyacht living into a floating garden estate. Designers Guido de Groot and Paulo Calado of Guido de Groot Design sat down with Ralph Dazert of SuperyachtTimes aboard LALABE’s salon to reveal the inspiration behind this vessel. “Every memorable home needs a beautiful garden,” explained the design team, a philosophy that became the cornerstone of LALABE’s distinctive character and her outdoor living spaces.

The all-aluminum tri-deck superyacht showcases custom design by Guido de Groot from the waterline up, merging the practical appeal of an explorer yacht with refined aesthetics. LALABE’s silhouette is defined by rhythmic lines, complex surfaces, and sculptural elements that create what the designers describe as “relaxing to the eye.”

At the heart of LALABE’s design is a focus on outdoor leisure, featuring a large swimming platform and thoughtfully arranged deck spaces. These outdoor areas function as essential “gardens” that define life aboard the vessel.

Built with multi-generational family cruising in mind, LALABE features high bulwarks along the side decks instead of open railings, while smart color separations provide security without compromising the yacht’s aesthetic. This approach to protected spaces makes LALABE particularly suited for families.

The designers’ garden-inspired philosophy represents a distinctive perspective in superyacht design — one where outdoor living spaces receive the same attention traditionally reserved for interior areas, creating a vessel where every deck becomes an extension of home.
