Yacht Exteriors, an introduction

At Guido de Groot Design we work on many varied projects, which can range from the exterior and interior design for large luxury mega yachts through to smaller yachts.

Each of our projects varies in many ways. Every client has individual requirements and each shipyard we work with has different work practices. The project length will also be different depending on the specific needs and deadlines. For our clients we can deliver a complete design package for both the interior and exterior design for Luxury Yachts. Some projects we undertake focus exclusively on the exterior styling of a vessel. On some projects we design the interior exclusively. On many we design both. On our projects we are working together with the most prestigious shipyards and naval architects worldwide.

We normally begin with concept drawings for a given project. These will typically be hand drawn sketches which explore many possible solutions. The type of detailing will vary from project to project, depending on whether the boat is traditional, contemporary or even futuristic. At this stage, the exploration of ideas is quite free; we wish to push the boundaries and at all times produce good and interesting solutions. However, these will be driven by the clients original wishes and requirements. Simultaneously, we will prepare preliminary layout drawings. These layout drawings will focus on the interior layout and the general arrangementof the exterior with deck detailing.
